Weeding Books

What in the World is weeding books? In simple terms, just like gardens needing to be cleared of weeds and excessive plant material, library collections need to be cleared of old, disused, worn and non-relevant material.  Weeding is the process of keeping book collections relevant to our patrons, up to date, and remaining true to the Learning Commons Mission.

Although, we as librarians have some quagmires, such as nostalgia, we create parameters and criteria for weeding books which helps create space for new books. These new books are like seeds for a blooming library.  Therefore, the moto “weed to seed” is essential for printed material collection development!

Weeded books will be donated to the International Philippines School in Al-Khobar.
